Credit Suisse promotes Russia head

Saad Fawzi Kiriakos has been named as chief executive of Credit Suisse Russia and will take charge of private banking, investment banking and asset management in the country.

London-based Fawzi Kiriakos, previously Credit Suisse's chief executive of emerging markets in the Europe, Middle East and Africa, will move to Moscow to take up what is a new position.

In a release, the bank said Fawzi Kiriakos, will be responsible for promoting its integrated model of a single bank for Russian clients.

In 2006, Credit Suisse was one of the first international banks to offer Russian customers onshore private banking services.

Alexis Rodzianko, head of private banking Moscow for Credit Suisse said last year Russia was one of the first testing grounds for Credit Suisse's one banking strategy, which aims to unify the operation functions of the group's different business lines.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
