RBC Wealth continues hiring spree with UBS bankers

The Royal Bank of Canada's wealth management arm has hired a senior duo from Swiss rival UBS, as part of an ongoing aggressive hiring spree.

Joann Holmes will head a team providing wealth management services for US high net worth clients.

She will be based in RBC's London office, and brings with her from UBS Adam Edgell-Bush who has a similar client focus. She reports to Mark Evans, RBC Wealth Management's head of private banking, British Isles.

Holmes has more than 20 years’ investment experience, and was most recently at UBS.

Last month RBC had hired a team of four wealth managers from Citi to cover non-resident Indian clients. Over the past year, RBC Wealth Management’s international group has hired more than ten private bankers in its London operation.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
