UBS client plans legal fight over transfer of account details to US authorities

A US client of UBS will urge a Swiss court to prevent his account details from being transferred to American official investigating alleged tax evasion, his lawyer said on Monday, according to a report in Los Angeles Times.

Thomas Fingerhuth said his customer, a retired US citizen, has been granted a 30-day period to challenge the verdict of the Swiss federal tax office to hand over his entire file to US authorities.

"It's my contention that the documents were compiled illegally, and therefore cannot be surrendered or used in America, where the rules on permissible evidence are much stricter than in Switzerland anyway," Fingerhuth said, as cited in the LA Times report.
