Swiss wealth manager signs up ex-Irish premier

Helvetia Wealth, a Zurich-based wealth manager, has signed up the former Irish premier Bertie Ahern to help promote its international forestry fund.

Ahern will become chairman of the fund, a joint venture between the Irish Forestry Fund and Helvetia.

The fund invests in forestry in Ireland, the UK and Central America, and buys existing forests, or land which is then afforested.

The fund is open-ended with a five-year initial lock-up period. Minimum investment is €100,000. The fund targets annualised returns of 7% to 10%. There is a 1.5% management fee and a 10% performance fee over 10-year Euro Bond returns.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
