Christie's launches insurance offering

Christie's, the privately-owned auction house, is launching an insurance service for its private clients in collaboration with insurer Chubb.

Christie’s Insurance Services will be available to its UK private clients and European clients serviced from London.

It is the first auction house to offer private clients bespoke insurance that encompasses art and personal insurance needs, including homes, cars, jewellery and travel, legal expenses and personal liability.

Christie’s Insurance Services will partner in the UK with Heath Lambert, a European independent art insurance broker and specialist insurer Chubb Insurance.

A spokeswoman said: "The new service will enable clients to enjoy their homes, belongings and art collections without the hassle and potential perils of managing multiple policies."

She said the decision to create the insurance offering had been made after a number of clients had enquired after a bespoke one-stop insurance service. She would not comment on fees but said rates were "competitive."

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
