Russian oligarch eyes London newspaper
Russian oligarch Alexander Lebedev, a former KGB agent, is keen on acquiring the Evening Standard, sister of the Daily Mail, but has been thwarted by Lord Rothermere, the Daily Mail and General Trust chairman, sources said, according to a report in The Guardian, London.
Lebedev, whose National Reserve Corporation owns more than 30% of the Russian national carrier, Aeroflot, was ranked 39th on Forbes' list of Russia's top 100 billionaires before the credit crisis.
