US billionaire donates $100m to renovate New York Theatre

US billionaire David Koch has donated $100m (€63.5m) for the renovation of the New York State Theatre, transforming the 1964 building into the David H. Koch Theatre, according to a report in The New York Times.

Koch's gift, which will be spread over a 10-year period, will see him donating $15m in the first year, contributing $10m for the next eight years, and $5m in the final year, the newspaper reported.

It covers half of the theatre's $200m capital campaign to renovate the space, making it the largest private capital donation in the history of Lincoln Centre.

Doing the Continental

Frank Sinatra had it about right: “It's very subtle, the Continental, because it does what you want it to do.” I had spent the morning driving down relatively busy A roads behind a Ferrari 599 but was perfectly happy that I had got the better of the deal. It’s no hardship being cocooned in the plush cockpit of a Bentley Continental GT Speed listening to John Humphrys detailing the latest travails of our benighted government.
