Swiss drop money laundering probe on politician

The Geneva prosecutor has dropped money laundering charges against Asif Ali Zardari, the Pakistani politician tipped to become the country’s next president, according to various press reports.

Zardari, the husband of the assassinated Benazir Bhutto, took over leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party shortly after her death. He is the leading candidate in the country’s forthcoming presidential elections.

The move comes eight months after the Swiss prosecutor dropped charges against Bhutto the day following her assassination.

The $60m seized at the request of the Pakistan authorities has now been released, with approximately $3.6m of the amount to be given to the state of Geneva.

Brummel

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
