JP Morgan Private Bank Hires Former Deutsche Banker For India

JPMorgan Chase & Co's private bank said Thursday it hired Deutsche Bank's former head of South Asia, Vinay Gandhi, to head its India business.

In his new role, Gandhi will be managing director and head of global India business. He will be based in Singapore and will report to Paul Scibetta, chief executive of J.P. Morgan's private bank in Asia.

Gandhi was previously managing director and head of South Asia for private wealth management at Deutsche Bank, and was responsible for coverage of non-resident Indians in the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
