Merrill Lynch Wealth hires duo for Nordic team

Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management has hired two senior financial advisers from Kaupthing to strengthen its ultra high and high net worth client coverage in the Nordic region.

Frode Andersen and Paul Boström join from Icelandic bank Kaupthing. They will focus on clients in Norway and Sweden respectively, with Andersen also focusing on expatriate Norwegians.

They will be based in Luxembourg and report to Steen Foldberg, GWM market leader for the Nordic region, Belgium and Luxembourg, and Jonas Melchior, GWM sales manager for Luxembourg.

The hires follow the addition of financial advisers Kristjón Grétarsson and Mikael Näss to the Nordic team last month.

Foldberg said: “We see strong growth potential in the Nordic region and these appointments are a further indication of Merrill Lynch’s commitment to strengthen our presence.”

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
