Credit Suisse hires senior UBS private banker

Credit Suisse has taken on a senior private banker from Swiss rival UBS to strengthen its UK onshore private banking team.

Mark Chamberlain joins from UBS wealth management where he was in charge of UK private clients' discretionary and advisory portfolios for four and a half years.

At Credit Suisse he will focus on financial professionals. He will be based in London and report to Andrew Cattle, a director in Credit Suisse’s UK onshore private banking business.

Cattle said: “I am delighted to welcome Mark to Credit Suisse and am confident that his experience within the wealth management industry will further enhance our onshore team and in particular our offering to financial professionals.”

Chamberlain has over 10 years’ banking experience, starting with a role as portfolio manager in the international private banking division at Insinger De Beaufort, after which he joined Govett Investments as a senior portfolio manager of UK and Irish clients prior to working for UBS.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
