Fortis hires senior private banker from UBS

Fortis Private Banking has taken on a new executive director to spearhead its UK onshore private banking business, who joins from UBS Wealth Management in the UK.

Adrian Laycock joins the Anglo-Dutch private bank from UBS' wealth management arm in London, where he started in 2002 and was promoted to executive director this year. Prior to UBS, he worked at Barclays.

He will report to Philip Howell, managing director of Fortis Private Banking in the UK, and will be based in London.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
