Merrills appoints four wealth specialists in Europe

Merrill Lynch's wealth management arm has strengthened its Iberia office with the appointment of a new team of four.

Lucia Granda, with eleven years experience at Merrills, has been promoted to market leader for Iberia, global wealth management.

She will be based in Madrid and will report to Gilles Dard, global wealth management market leader for Continental Europe.

Alberto Spagnola, with 12 years asset management experience, joins Merrill Lynch as head of global wealth management's Iberia discretionary business. He joins from M&B Capital Advisers, an independent Spanish investment firm, where he became a partner in 2005.

Regis Molowny joins as head of wealth structuring for Iberia. He was previously with Spanish law firm Cuatrecasas, where he became a senior adviser of the financial and tax department after 12 years.

Carlos Chacón has been appointed as head of risk management for Merrill's GWM Iberia discretionary business. He has 15 years of experience in roles related to risk and control of financial investments and portfolios, and joins from March Gestión de Fondos, an asset management company which is part of Spanish lender Banca March.

All three report to Granda and will be based in Madrid.

Eva Castillo, head of Merrill Lynch global wealth management for EMEA said: “The appointments will help us to build on our three pillar strategy of discretionary investment management, advisory and wealth structuring which is now in place in our Madrid office, further enhancing our offering to GWM’s growing client base.”

Mayfair goes Modern

Sebastian + Barquet, a three-year old design gallery based in New York and Chelsea, is opening a new gallery showing museum quality pieces in Mayfair next month, the first in London to focus on international modernism from the 1940s to the 1960s. Texas billionaire sues Lehman for $60m

Texas billionaire T. Boone Pickens has filed a lawsuit against Lehman Brothers for $59.9m (€43.8m), accusing the failed Wall Street bank of violating its contract by failing to repay collateral posted by the energy baron, according to a Reuters report.
