Investec bolsters Jersey office with top bankers

Investec Bank has hired a senior private banker from RBS as head of its Jersey operations and appointed a new head of risk.

Kevin Allen joins as head of Investec Bank's Jersey branch while Tony Grimes has become head of risk and compliance.

Allen has over 24 years experience in the financial services sector and was previously head of portfolios in the offshore real estate finance team at Royal Bank of Scotland.

Allen will concentrate on client lending opportunities with a focus on property leaning to Jersey based financial intermediaries. He will also look to provide development funding to local property developers on projects in the Channel Islands.

Grimes joined Investec in 2000, following the acquisition of Theodores trust and law group. He has since held a number of roles within the Investec Group, including chief operating officer of Investec Trust, responsible for operations in Jersey, Guernsey, Geneva and Mauritius.

Investec’s Jersey branch has been registered with the Jersey Financial Services Commission since May 2007 and was opened in response to the continued high demand from the fiduciary sector for its specialist services on the island.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
