Barclays Wealth hires for Scottish expansion

Barclays Wealth has hired four financial planning experts to grow its Edinburgh-based wealth unit.

The four - Graeme Inglis, Paul Turnbull, Richard Fletcher, and Andy Winnington – have joined the new team under the leadership of Jamie Corcoran.

Inglis joins from HBOS, Turnbull from HSBC, and Fletcher and Winnington from Albannach Financial Management.

Separately, Barclays Wealth said it had promoted Douglas Noble to head its private banking and investment management units in Edinburgh. He was previously head of Barclays Wealth in Aberdeen.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
