Asia-Pacific wealth unit head quits Citigroup

Kaven Leung, Citigroup’s head of its Asia-Pacific wealth management operations, has quit, the bank said on Thursday, according to a Reuters report.

Leung, who was managing nearly 2,000 people, has been with the bank for more than 20 years. He became chief executive of the Asia-Pacific wealth management unit last year. The division comprises the private bank and the Smith Barney retail brokerage.

Deepak Sharma, who heads Citigroup's global wealth management outside the United States, will take on the additional responsibility of chief executive Asia-Pacific, a spokesman said.

Brummel

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
