Arbuthnot Latham CEO steps down

The chief executive and member of the board at Arbuthnot Latham, the London-based private bank, has left the bank after two years, citing personal reasons.

Mike Bussey will be replaced by Dean Michael Proctor, the current deputy chief executive and head of private banking. Dean also joins the board of Arbuthnot Banking Group.

Before joining Arbuthnot Latham in July this year, Proctor was at Citibank for 3 years and most recently was managing director of wealth management and retail banking. Dean was also a director of Egg Banking. Prior to Citibank Dean worked at Lloyds Bank for 13 years.

Bussey, who leaves his position and the board of the group for personal reasons but remains at the private bank as a vice chairman assisting with a number of initiatives with which he has been closely involved, the bank said in a statement.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
