Sheffield Haworth starts US wealth recruitment arm

Recruitment consultant Sheffield Haworth, 25% owned by Icap's Michael Spencer, has hired two wealth management specialists in the US.

Scott Coff, who built and led the North and South America wealth recruitment team at Rhodes Associates, will lead a new US wealth practice for Sheffield Haworth. Monica Vida, who worked with him at Rhodes, is also signing up.

Coff will work closely with Kathy Tompkins who has been developing Sheffield's North American practice since 2005. The new US practice will work alongside the Europe and Middle Eastern wealth division established by Zoe Robson in London in 2004.

Coff's hiring follows the arrival of three Boson-based asset management consultants, led by Paige Scott, from Sextant Partners, the alternative asset management search firm.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
