SG appoints new head of Swiss private banking

SG Private Banking, a subsidiary of French bank Société Générale, has promoted one of its bankers to head up the Swiss private banking operations.

Guillaume Lejoindre started at SG in September 2008 as managing director, joining from Crédit Agricole.

He replaced Bernard Sonntag, who is leaving the bank to persue other activites, according to SG.

He will be responsible for developing SG's private banking operations in Switzerland, where its footprint has grown since the merger between SG Rüegg Bank AG and CBG Compagnie Bancaire Genève in 2003.

SG Private Banking had €73bn of assets under management at the end of September 2008.

Brummel

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
