Citi Private Bank new head appoints deputies in Europe

Citi Private Bank's new global chief executive, Jane Fraser, has made her first senior reshuffle since she took over the role in early June.

Paul James, previously head of trust business for global wealth management international, has an expanded role and is now head of global wealth structuring. He will manage the bank's trust businesses and will report directly to Fraser. He will be based in Jersey.

Claudia Rinschler has an expanded role as deputy head of GWS, reporting to James.

Luigi Pigorini, a 25-year Citi veteran, re-joins the private bank as global head of investment finance, reporting to Fraser. Pigorini was most recently global industry head for technology, media and telecom with the corporate bank. He will be based in London.

He takes over from Steve Victorin who was previously leading the IF team in global wealth management. Victorin is moving to a new role in risk.

Dena Brumpton will start in September as global head of client and business development, a new position, reporting to Fraser. She will help to develop the bank's ultra high net worth business.

Last month Citigroup named Peter Charrington as chief executive of Citi Private Bank's North American business, responsible for all private banking activities in the US and Canada.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
