Barclays Wealth hires heavyweight from Credit Suisse

Barclays Wealth has appointed Craig Lewis as its new head of investment advisory and its investment & products office.

Lewis joins from Credit Suisse, where he had spent eleven years in senior roles, most recently as head of the Swiss bank’s hedge fund advisory unit within asset management.

Prior to Credit Suisse, he was a senior investment counsellor responsible for asset allocation and risk management for high net worth clients at Citibank Private Bank. Lewis began his career at Merrill Lynch as a portfolio manager.

Lewis will report to Kevin Lecocq, chief investment officer.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
