UBS Wealth Management appoints new CIO

UBS Wealth Management has appointed a new chief investment officer and head of investment management.

Christoph Schenk, formerly chief executive of pensions at the bank, joins the wealth management division effective October 1. He reports to Markus Ronner, head of products and services, and chair the global investment committee as well as Juerg Haller, co-chair the global mandate committee.

Schenk will also work closely with Andreas Hoefert, chief economist at the Swiss bank.

Schenk replaces former CIO Michael Strobaek who steps down at the end of September for unknown reasons, after a 13 year tenure.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
