Goldman triumphs at Advisory Awards
Advisers to Europe's buyout community gathered at Banqueting House in London last night for Private Equity News’ third annual awards for Excellence in Advisory Services, where Goldman Sachs won the coveted Financial Sponsors Coverage Team accolade.
The awards, which recognised the achievements of advisers to the buyout industry in Europe across 20 categories and which were voted on by an independent panel, were presented by Walid Sarkis, managing director of buyout firm Bain Capital.
Melissa Rice, a vice-president in Goldman’s financial sponsor group, collected the top award. The bank fought off competition from JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley to claim the prize.
Goldman also shared the award for Buyside Mandate of the Year with RBC Capital Markets for the pair’s work on the acquisition of oil services group Expro by Candover.
Sellside mandate of the year went to Lehman Brothers and UK-based Hawkpoint for their work on the sale of French industrial equipment provider Converteam from Barclays Private Equity to LBO France. Emanuel Roger from Lehman and Jacques Callaghan from Hawkpoint collected the award.
JP Morgan won Leveraged Finance House of the Year in the last of the banking categories.
In the legal catergory, US firm Kirkland & Ellis won Banking Finance Team of the Year, while Freshfields triumphed in the Private Equity and M&A category. Debevoise & Plimpton won Fund Formation Team of the Year.
In the first accountancy category, PricewaterhouseCoopers took home the award for Commercial and Market Due Diligence Team of the Year. PwC also won in the Financial Due Diligence category. KPMG won Corporate Finance (accountancy) Team of the Year.
Cavendish Corporate Finance won Corporate Finance Boutique of the Year in the first of the specialist categories. Fund Placement Team of the Year went to Credit Suisse, while Capital Dynamics won Fund of Funds Firm of the Year.
Altius Associates won the Gatekeeper category, Marsh won Risk Adviser of the Year, Houlihan Lokey won the Turnaround and Restructuring Team Award and the Environmental Due Diligence Team of the Year went to ERM. Punter Southall won the award for Pensions Due Diligence Firm of the Year and High Yield Investor of the Year went to ICG Capital Partners.
In the operational services category, Augentius won Fund Administrator of the Year, Merrill DataSite took home Software Provider of the Year, Penrose won the PR category and Private Equity Recruitment won the recruitment category.
