Washington seeks reduced prison term for UBS client in tax-evasion case

US authorities on Monday sought a reduced sentence for Jeffrey Chernick, a former American client of UBS who pleaded guilty to tax evasion in July but offered information resulting in the indictment of Swiss banker Hansruedi Schumacher and Zurich attorney Matthias Rickenbach, according to a Reuters report.

The move comes ahead of Friday's scheduled sentencing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida of Chernick, who faces a potential prison term of up to two years.
