Record Ferrari snapped up for $11m

A black Ferrari, formerly owned by Hollywood actor James Coburn, sold for a record €7m ($10.9m) at a Sotheby's auction yesterday.

The Nero-black 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder had been expected to sell for between €3.2m and €3.6m. The previous highest price paid for a car was $10.7m, paid for a red Ferrari 250 GTO at Sotheby's in Monaco in 1990, according to Bloomberg.

Radio DJ Chris Evans bought the car. Evans' wealth is estimated at $88m according to the Sunday Times Rich List, and he invests in property and vintage cars.
