RBC scoops wealth quartet from Citi

RBC Wealth Management, the wealth arm of Royal Bank of Canada, has hired a team of four senior private bankers to cover non-resident Indian clients, as the latest move towards international growth for the bank.

Sumit Sibal, Amit Kachawaha, Amit Kotha and Vikram Anand join Citibank International with more than 30 years banking experience between them, and will be led by Sumit Sibal.

The new team will be based in London and report to Mark Evans, head of private banking, British Isles.

Last month RBC Wealth announced a tie-up with Jersey-based Mourant Private Wealth, adding another £3.5bn in assets under management to RBC.

Last year RBC Wealth hired a nearly $500m (€371m) wealth advisory team from Wachovia for its US operations and said it is actively seeking to take on more wealth managers in the British Isles and Europe.

Brummel

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
