SG Hambros to hire Kleinwort Benson duo

UK wealth manager SG Hambros is understood to have hired a team of two senior private bankers from rival Kleinwort Benson.

Andrew Wimble and Rebecca Constable, formerly in charge of Kleinwort Benson's Newbury office, are set to join the UK wealth manager, according to sources close to SG Hambros. Based in Newbury, an area known for its wealthy horse-owners.

Wimble joined Kleinwort Benson in 1998, and was most recently a senior private banker advising UK-based private clients, their families and charities in the management of their financial affairs.

Constable joined the UK private banking arm of Dresdner Kleinwort in 2007, as a senior private banker, having spent 17 years advising private clients.

SG Hambros would not confirm nor deny the moves.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
