Deutsche Bank Wealth Management scoops Citi managers

Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management has hired two relationship managers from US rival Citi, the latest in a string of senior hires for the German bank's London office.

The bank confirmed the appointment of Dan Cefai as a director in its London wealth management office. He joined from Citi where he worked since 2002, most recently as a senior vice president. Before Citi he was at HSBC since 1997.

In June Annabel Stephens joined the German bank's private wealth business as a relationship manager, also from Citi.

Both report to Juliet Wedderburn, head of the London office for private wealth management UK.

Deutsche Bank's wealth management division has gone on the front foot to attract new talent for its London office. Over the last four months it hired seven senior staff, five at director level and two vice presidents.

Melanie Cassoff, Nataša Williams and Beatrice Rates joined recently from UBS, Andreas Wichmann and Joe Knight came from Credit Suisse, Neil Murray was tapped from JP Morgan Private Bank, and Robin Perry joined from Barclays Wealth.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
