Credit Suisse Private Banking hires CIO

The private banking division of Swiss bank Credit Suisse has appointed a chief investment officer as a newly created position.

Stefan Keitel starts as chief investment officer of private banking today. This is in addition to his current position as global CIO multi-asset class solutions in asset management.

In an internal memo, chief executive of the private bank, Walter Berchtold, said: "Stefan will also assume the position of chairman of the Credit Suisse investment committee. The scope of the committee has now been expanded to also provide consistent short-, mid-, and long-term investment opinions and give guidance on asset allocation across these time horizons."

Keitel is expected to work with Giles Keating, head of asset management and private banking global research and vice chairman of the investment committee, along with David Strebel, head of private banking investment advisory and strategies.

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
