Insight bolsters fixed income team

UK asset manager Insight Investment has appointed a senior product specialist to its fixed income team in a move complementing an expansion of the division's fund range for institutional investors.

April LaRusse will join Insight this month from its UK peer Newton Investment Management, and will report to Andrew Wickham, Insight's head of UK fixed income.

Before joining Newton, LaRusse was at London asset manager F&C. She has also sold bonds and derivatives at investment bank Lehman Brothers.

Insight, the £112bn (€138.1bn) funds arm of UK bank HBOS, is in the process of establishing a number of regulated fixed income funds for institutional investors, and in April launched the Insight Loan fund, aiming to return Libor plus 2.5% over a market cycle by investing in high quality loans, debt securities and derivatives.

Also joining Insight will be Sonja Uys, as senior product specialist for funds that aim to profit regardless of market direction. She will report to Reza Vishkai, head of alternatives at Insight.

Uys was previously with investment bank JP Morgan selling derivatives to institutional investors and before this was at Jardine Lloyd Thompson and asset manager Lloyds TSB.

Insight Investment has absolute return funds that take long and short positions in equities markets, funds which put roughly equal amounts of money in long and short positions, and funds that invest across different asset classes.

Joining Insight in making new appointments is London computer-driven fund manager Winton Capital Management, which has named Peter Jauhal to its main board of directors and as chief administrative officer for research.

Jauhal had worked as a consultant to Winton since April 2004, before joining the hedge fund manager full-time in August 2006. The firm is on a growth path, both in terms of assets under management, which have increased by 64% to $15.9bn in the year to June 30, and staff, which have grown in number from 30 four years ago to about 200 now.
