New Philanthropy Capital hires top fund manager

New Philanthropy Capital, the London-based firm which helps charities maximise their impact, has enlisted the help of Anthony Bolton from UK fund manager Fidelity International to vet its charity recommendations.

Other external members of the committee are: Victoria Hornby of Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts; David Robinson OBE, co-founder of Community links, Children’s Discovery Centre and We Are What We Do; and, Sally Walden from Fidelity International.

The chair of NPC’s board of trustees, David Robins and its chief executive, Martin Brookes, are also members of the committee.

The Charity Committee is responsible for scrutinising NPC analysts’ research on charities and deciding if the charities they have proposed should go forward as NPC charity recommendations.

Bolton said: "As part of the selection panel vetting NPC's recommendations I can use my experience of over 30 years of meeting companies and reading analysts’ research. This process should help the best charities get the funds they need to improve people's lives."

Relocation, relocation, relocation

Banks have never been shy of firing staff at the merest whiff of a downturn. First the fat, then the muscle and finally the bone. In the past, cuts have been so deep that firms have found it hard to benefit when the markets rebounded, paying over the odds to restaff at speed. Such wild oscillations in staffing numbers are known as “doing a Merrill”.
